Former Hartford Courant columnist Helen Ubiñas has received an excellence in journalism award from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
The award comes just a few months after she announced her decision to leave the Philadelphia Inquirer, where she has been since 2011, to devote her full time efforts to a non-profit she established to help Latinas in journalism.
In a social media post announcing her award, Ubiñas said she considers her current break from daily news temporary and said she is open to conversations about what her return to daily journalism may look like.
