Connecticut Connection

When it comes to coverage of national stories it is always an imperative for local journalists to find the Connecticut angle.

Aside from the many Washington, D.C. based reporters with career connections to Connecticut, it appears the New London Police Department played a small role in the immediate aftermath of Saturday’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Suspect Cole Tomas Allen reportedly sent a letter to members of his family on the evening of the event apologizing in advance. According to NBC News, his brother received a copy of the letter and alerted the New London Police who in turn alerted federal officials in Washington.

From NBC:

“The senior administration official said that Allen’s brother contacted the New London Police Department in Connecticut when he received the note.

“The department confirmed being contacted at around 10:49 p.m. Saturday, just over two hours after the shooting, “by an individual who expressed concern about the incident that occurred at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner earlier in the evening.” Police contacted federal law enforcement and the caller was interviewed by authorities.”
