Joe D'Ambrosio

Thanks to our friend Joe D’Ambrosio, The Voice of UConn, for providing The Laurel with this first-hand account of the CT media scene at The Fiesta Bowl in Arizona.

It took a long time but the Connecticut media is present and accounted for in Arizona. Chuck Banning of the Day and Chip Malafronte from the Register were the last to arrive, getting here on Thursday night due to weather related issues.

The WTIC broadcast team (Wayne Norman, Eric Davis and myself) were a day late getting here since the snow prevented Bob Joyce, Kara Wolters and producer Mike Guerrera from getting to the women’s game at Pacific on Tuesday night. We flew from Pittsburgh to Minneapolis to Sacramento on Tuesday for the game and then flew to Phoenix on Wednesday.

Others here include Des Conner and Zac Boyer from the Courant, Neill Ostrout and Chris Elsbury from the Connecticut Post, Ed Daignault from Waterbury, and John Silver from the Journal Inquirer . All four TV stations have talent here, Kevin Nathan from NBC Connecticut, John Pierson from News 8, John Holt from WFSB and Tim Lammers from Fox Connecticut

The Fiesta Bowl people have been incredibly helpful, if only they could have done something about the 40 degree temperatures but some of my colleagues still toughed it out in shorts. I will keep the names to myself to protect the innocent.
