With Nexstar(WTNH) due to report quarterly earnings this Thursday, the state-led effort to block the company’s acquisition of Tegna(Fox 61) is now bipartisan.
The attorneys general of five additional states have joined Connecticut and seven other states asking the federal courts to intervene to stop the merger. Both Democrats and Republicans are arguing the merger will allow Nexstar to dominate the media landscape, raise prices and reduce local news coverage. An amended complaint was filed late last week.
Nexstar says the states are misguided and are hurting local journalism.
