After several years of working together, GBH in Boston and New England Public Media have announced they will complete a merger this summer.
In separate announcements, the two public media companies say the new organization will serve a potential audience of 1.3 million people across Massachusetts, Rhode Island and parts of Connecticut. The merger includes WCAI which serves Cape Cod and the islands. GBH is based in Boston. NEPM is based in Springfield.
Both GBH and NEPM stressed in their news releases that each will retain a level of independence and branding, but both will benefit by combining “back office operations, such as a statewide sponsorship program; growing content collaborations; and allowing for even greater investments in staff and programs.”
