Pending further developments, a protest is scheduled for noon today(Thursday) outside the New Haven studios of WTNH over the station’s refusal to air the ABC late night show hosted by James “Jimmy” Kimmel.
WTNH is owned by Nexstar and it’s the station’s parent company that began the nationwide boycott of the Kimmel show last week, after Kimmel made remarks during a monologue related to the death of Charles Kirk, the conservative influencer who was assassinated on a college campus in Utah two weeks ago.
ABC returned Kimmel to the air Tuesday night, but Nexstar and the Sinclair Broadcast Group have continued their boycott. The protest planned at WTNH is organized by the Connecticut Citizen Action Group and advocates of free speech.
Sinclair is known for broadcasting local news from a conservative point of view. Nexstar’s decision to refuse to air Kimmel is believed to be related to its desire to win FCC approval for a merger with Tegna, which owns WTIC-TV in Connecticut.
