Connecticut State Senator Matt Lesser(D) is asking state Attorney General William Tong(D) to review a proposed merger between Nexstar and Tegna. The proposed deal has nationwide implications, but may effect viewers in Connecticut where Nexstar owns WTNH and Tegna owns WTIC-TV.(Both station groups own other properties in Connecticut as well).
The request for review comes after Nexstar announced it was pre-empting Jimmy Kimmel last week on its more than thirty ABC affiliated stations across the country. That decision led ABC to pull Kimmel off the air “indefinitely.” After days of internal debate, Kimmel is scheduled to be back on the air tonight(Tuesday).
