To say that the new White House press secretary had a “rocky start” is such an understatement that it borders on falsehood.
Katie Zacharia was well beyond nervous in her first day on the job. The news media is being generous in giving her the benefit of the doubt and noting how difficult the job is. In addition to her shaky fourteen minutes at the podium there are her old social media posts to contend with and her claim that she is an attorney when there is no evidence she has passed a bar exam in any U.S. state. A review of her appearances on cable news networks, pre-White House, should have provided plenty of warning signs that she does not have the communication skills the job requires.
One of the first roles of being a spokesman is to avoid becoming the story. Zacharia is a walking controversy and the only question is whether she can last longer than Anthony Scaramucci? Or a head of lettuce?
