From a public relations perspective, it’s not as if the present-day politicians of Connecticut don’t have history as a guide. John Rowland. Eddie Perez. Joe Ganim. All you have to do is understand what they did wrong and as George Costanza might say, “do the opposite.”

Stewart Quits Race for Governor – CT Mirror

One of Erin Stewart’s role models in politics(according to her) is former Governor Jodi Rell, who rose to the top position in state government after Governor Rowland was forced to resign in a scandal involving personal spending. Rell was the model to follow. Instead, like many political leaders, it appears Stewart fell victim to the entitlements of office, forcing her to end her long-shot, but not impossible campaign for governor. It may not be the end of her political career – Joe Ganim was returned to office – but the facts of the case do not look good for her.

As former Journal Inquirer editor Chris Powell pointed out in a recent column, Stewart’s candidacy always looked good in theory, but looks can be deceiving.

It reminds us of the old Timex watch commercial that ends with the line, “Well, it worked in rehearsal.”
