The Last Broadcast

Tonight(Friday) at 11p.m. the CBS News radio network will sign off for the last time.

As we reported a few months back, CBS has decided the radio news network that began CBS News is no longer profitable and therefore no longer sustainable. CBS radio news began in the years before American involvement in World War II – 1938 – with the CBS World News Round-up. Until this morning(Friday) it was the longest running news broadcast in U.S. history.

Over the last several months there have been many stories marking the end of CBS Radio. Most celebrate the importance of the network, many mourn its loss, few disagree with the observation that radio as a means of news delivery has been replaced and there’s not much that can be done about it.
