Less than a month after Congress voted to remove all funding to public media from the federal budget, the CEO of Connecticut Public Media is promising that there will be no immediate need for staff cuts or programming changes. Most stations across the country are said to be safe for at least the next year.

That being said, it would be reasonable for employees in the public media world to consider other options just in case. The example of Ray Hardman may be helpful.

Hardman, the long-time Connecticut Public Media host was laid off last year. After thinking about what to do next he started his own business. Hardman records high quality video interviews with subjects who wish to document their family histories. The company is called “The Story of Life.”
