The News Guild, which represents nearly 300 journalists at Hearst Media newspapers across the country, wrote a letter to the company last week demanding “respect.” The union listed specific complaints about ownership practices in four states.
In Connecticut, the Guild is asking Hearst to end “spurious election appeals” and to begin bargaining on a first contract.
Former CBS News investigative reporter Anna Werner may soon be seen on a Gray station(WFSB) near you. Werner has joined Gray’s InvestigateTV unit. The work of the team is seen on Gray stations around the country.
Meanwhile, back at CBS, on the morning after the FCC approved Paramount’s merger with Skydance Media, CBS News announced Tanya Simon will be the next executive producer of 60 Minutes. She is replacing Bill Owens who resigned earlier this year citing interference with editorial decision making.
Simon, who has been a 60 Minutes producer and editor, will be the show’s fourth executive producer and perhaps the most scrutinized, because of the circumstances of the Skydance takeover and the decision by Paramount to settle a lawsuit President Trump filed as a result of the show’s reporting.
