The Associated Press and WFSB-TV (channel 3) teamed up to challenge the CT State Police on its mug shot policy. Many municipal police departments release mug shots but the State Police does not. A hearing was held before the CT Freedom of Information Commission at which the news organizations contended that mug shots are part of the public record, as with an incident/accident report. Late last week an FOI hearing officer issued a ruling that concurs with the news media opinion. A final hearing with the full commission takes place January 12th, 2011.
