As expected, Tom Llamas has been named to take over as anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News when Lester Holt retires from the broadcast this summer.
Sources inside the network say when Llamas joined NBC from ABC it was always the plan for him to succeed Holt in the anchor chair. Having said that, following the Holt retirement announcement last week, there were others who said former WFSB reporter Hallie Jackson – a primary anchor on NBC’s streaming network – had a chance to take over Nightly.
Clearly she lost out in the competition this time in a move her fans will surely view as a historic miscalculation on the part of the network.
