The Journal Register Company, whose CT publications include the New Haven Register, Torrington Register Citizen, Middletown Press and Connecticut Magazine, has been sold to Alden Global Capital. The Journal Register Company came out of bankruptcy in 2009, and Alden is described in one report as “….managing the Alden Global Distressed Opportunities Fund which invests primarily in U.S. distressed debt.”

The days of local ownership of newspapers do seem like a distant memory…
I hadn’t heard of the ownership of these papers changing hands. Hopefully they’ll retain the bulk of the staff so they’ll still be able to do good jobs.
