A celebration of the life of Allen Kay is scheduled for this weekend in Frederick, Maryland.
Allen began his journalism career in New Hampshire before moving to Connecticut to work as a reporter and anchor for WPOP during its days as a local all news radio station. He was assigned to cover the state’s congressional delegation, by phone, from Hartford and he did the job so well he was awarded a fellowship to work on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
He spent the rest of his career in the D.C. area working first on the Hill and for the last fourteen years at the Walter Reed National Medical Center as a communications advisor.
He will be remembered as quiet, kind, willing to listen, earnest, inquisitive, and fair – all with an ironic sense of humor that didn’t miss much.
