Where Art Thou, Chion?

Chion Wolf – best known as the hilarious performer and producer of our intros – took up serious cycling this year. That seemed like a great idea until one afternoon in late June when she had a car-related crash that left her badly injured. Surgery patched her up, but we’ve been struggling along without her for all of July, and it seems less and less likely we’ll get her back this month.  Maybe early August.  Chion is also the technical producer of our show and Where We Live. She’s the one who makes the shows sound sweet and smooth. She also does something we call “continuity,” those long studio sessions where she records the breaks you hear all through the week. Our other producers have been working hard to cover all the stuff she does. We’ve mostly given up on the intros until she comes back.

This would have been a tougher slog had we not added, in the spring, producer Jonathan McNicol, formerly of the Faith Middleton Show. Jonathan has produced shows for us on dioramas, clouds, unreliable narrators, circumcision and the history of the bulldozer. He also took over the Nose, our Friday culture roundtable. With Betsy, Jonathan and part-timer Josh Nilaya we’re still a little shy of the staffing a daily show like ours needs, but nobody in the business has the concentration of talent we’ve got.
