Wayne Alan Worcester, a distinguished writer, reporter, editor, and professor of journalism at the University of Connecticut has died. He was 78.

A resident of Vernon, Worcester taught at UConn from 1987 to 2013. His course load included; news, feature, and magazine writing, editing, literary journalism, and publication. He received a graduate degree from the Columbia School of Journalism and was an award winning reporter and editor with the then Providence Journal.

Worcester was married to Maureen E. Croteau who served as the head of UConn’s Department of Journalism from 1983-2021 and previously worked at The Hartford Times, The Hartford Courant, The Day of New London, and The Providence Journal-Bulletin.
