Still from tronc employee video.

Monday Tribune Publishing officially became tronc(the small “t” is part of the brand).

The name change is supposed to signal the merging of a modern tech company with a legacy news company. Since the decision was announced it has been derided in the press. One reason is the explanations from top Tribune Publishing management that sound as if someone swallowed a dictionary of conference call cliches and then tried to use every single one of them to full effect.

Tronc released a video to employees Monday to get everyone excited about the big change and the reviews have not been positive. Another fundamental challenge for company management is convincing its journalist employees who are by nature skeptical of anyone who tells them “this is going to be great.”

Tronc owns the Hartford Courant.
