The Plot Thickens…

The official company statement on “The Real Story”:

WTIC was surprised to learn last night that Shelly Sindland had publicly announced she was getting ready to host “…her last ‘Real Story,’” a community affairs program. We are currently in contract negotiations with Ms. Sindland, and her duties with the show have been part of that negotiation.  WTIC had asked Ms. Sindland to continue on as host of the show, but it appears she has made the decision not to.  We want to emphasize, however, that ‘Real Story’ has not been cancelled.

  1. Yah, if I were you I’d take down comment #2, Duby. It was mean and very personal. This is sort of like the Prof. Gates incident. We simply don’t know all the facts, so perhaps we should follow your example and settle (for now) with “The Plot Thickens.”

  2. One of their photojournos tweeted several people, including me, to announce the show hadn’t been canceled.

I replied citing the lawsuit, that making her do all the work was tantamount to canceling it. I got the following 3 messages in quick succession:

“WTIC isn’t making comments about this case because it will not be played out in the media. And FYI, she does not do all the work.”

“WTIC isn’t commenting because it’s not the right forum. And FYI, she does not do all the work. Wait for FACTS to come out, not allegations.”

“WTIC isn’t commenting because it’s not the right forum. Perhaps you should wait for FACTS to come out, and not just read allegations.”

    So yeah, something’s up.

  3. I tweeted because I am tired and upset of defending the quality of work our journalists put out at our station. I think it’s unfortunately being overshadowed and it’s frustrating. The “quick succession” was because I wanted it to come out just right. However, I stand by what I said.

I think everyone, including myself, should wait before taking things as fact.

    Thanks.

  4. Ryan got in touch with me and let me know that he tweeted so much because he wanted to get it right, not that he was angry. Fair enough.

I’m not questioning the journalism done by the fine folks at Fox 61. It’s the supervisors in charge that make the allegations so troubling.

The facts need to come out, but at the same time, I trust that Shelly did not make these allegations lightly, nor without doing her due diligence.

It’s hard to ask people to categorically trust nothing she says when they employ her as a person everybody can trust.

  5. Interesting events. Anon, I’m not questioning the so-called journlism at your station either..just what that journalism is about….crap..car crashes, house fires, shootings, domestic violence, and sex sex sex. Same with all your stations…we’ve pretty much stopped watching. And I agree…this stuff we heard and that I read about Shelly’s case reflects badly on the supervisors, not the reporters. Assuming she didnt’ just make it all up, they sound really sleazy, no wonder with all the sleaze you pass for news. Just my 2 cents.
