In a column titled, “All of Us Deserved the Best Coverage,” assistant sports editor/columnist Mike DiMauro takes on the Hearst newspaper chain (which owns locally the Connecticut Post, Stamford Advocate, Danbury News-Times and Greenwich Time). DiMauro points out that the Hearst newspaper chain sent to Houston neither CT Post beat writer Neill Ostrout (who had covered the team the whole season) nor sports columnist Chris Elsberry.

There, Monday night in Houston, stood former UConn basketball greats Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva and Rip Hamilton. They were posing for a photo, holding mock front pages from the Connecticut Post. The headlines read, “CHAMPS!” with the words “Extra! Extra!” over the Post masthead.

The Post’s mother ship, Hearst Newspapers, thought enough of UConn’s run to the national title to craft and produce all the mock front pages from the chain’s lone newspaper in Connecticut.

But not enough to send any Post reporters to the Final Four.
