AT&T announced last week that it’s laying off 75 workers in Connecticut. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal sent out a press release and let the media know that he was meeting with the president of the Communications Workers of America, which represents the AT&T employees, outside a company call center in Meriden.  The press release stated, “Awash in money as it stands ready to spend $60 billion to purchase MediaOne, AT&T is hanging up on Connecticut families and consumers.”

As Pat Dadonna reports in The Day of New London, only problem was, the information about the impending purchase of MediaOne was 10 years old; plus, it refers to the old AT&T which was a completely different company. CWA Union president William Henderson acknowledged that his office gave Blumenthal’s the faulty information. Blumenthal’s office issued a corrected release.
