Storm Ranger

If you see a hulking black truck driving Connecticut roads with an equally large bulbous canister on the back, it may not be a part of a nuclear waste recovery team. It might be an NBC Storm Ranger.

NBC stations now own three of them. They have been strategically stationed in large markets around the country, but are available to all NBC owned stations(WVIT). The purpose of these massive weather trucks is to drive into bad weather to deploy a “powerful new” radar system.

But one must admit, if you are driving through a storm you already know where it is.

Dramatic side view.

BTW – When used by NBC/Telemundo-owned stations the Storm Rangers are known as CazaTormentas. You don’t need to know Spanish to know the phrase describes a potentially perilous situation.
