In a recent Waterbury Republican-American article, former Governor John Rowland states that he uses his WTIC radio show to promote the City of Waterbury.

Rowland is also employed by the Waterbury Regional Chamber of Commerce as its economic development coordinator and he believes that his role as WTIC radio host helps him promote the Brass City. His aim is to retain and expand businesses the city already has and to attract new companies.

Some in Waterbury feel Rowland’s drive-time radio show commitment makes him a part-time worker and his salary from the chamber should be reduced. Recently, Waterbury’s Board of Alderman voted to reduce the city’s contribution to the chamber from $100,000 to $55,000 in hopes Rowland’s salary would be reduced.
