Wesleyan University President Michael Roth is held up as an example of a leader in higher education willing to stand up to the perceived excesses of the new Trump admonition.
Writing for The Washington Post, columnist Perry Bacon Jr. says Roth stands “firmly in defense of diversity, equity and inclusion, transgender rights and immigration,” despite the threat of possible retaliation. Bacon notes too many leaders in academia, business, and government are cowed by the new president and have chosen not to take a public stand against some of his norm busting policies at a time when opposition may be the most important – and most American – thing to do.
