Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, but it also marks the end of an unintended career for 82 year old Fremont “Monty” Besmer.

He has been delivering the Waterbury Republican in Kent for the last 29 years. He says it has kept him healthy and in touch with the people of the town, especially the early risers, but it’s time to quit before the weather turns cold.

His meandering life story which has taken him from Illinois and his first paper route, to Nigeria, New York City, and Kent is captured well by Ruth Epstein.
