tronc. The company formerly known as Tribune Publishing is still the target of a takeover attempt by Gannett with word this week that Gannett is preparing a new, bigger offer for tronc’s newspapers.

Meanwhile, an analysis from Editor & Publisher says Gannett can do anything it wants, but tronc is moving forward with its plans to transform the old line media company into a digital first content provider that managers like those who run Gannett can’t even understand. Tronc owns the Hartford Courant.

Eric Trump. The son of Donald helped his father dig himself into deeper and deeper holes Tuesday over the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace. In two separate interviews he suggested his sister, Ivanka, would never be a victim of sexual harassment because she is strong. The comment seemed to imply that other women who face sexual harassment in the workplace are weak. This brought a Twitter response from Gretchen Carlson of Greenwich and Megyn Kelly.

Hearst Connecticut. In a development worth noting from a journalistic perspective, a three member team of reporters at Hearst moved the ball forward significantly Wednesday morning concerning the federal probe into Democratic fundraising in Connecticut.

Historically, the Courant has been far out front of all other Connecticut media when it comes to staying on top of the often secretive process of federal grand jury investigations. The scooplet raises eyebrows.
