Thirty-four years ago, a weather forecaster with the same name as Connecticut’s largest airport began his career at what is now NBC CT.

Monday, after a family vacation in Nantucket, Brad Field walked into the station and announced his retirement. Many on the NBC CT news team were “shocked” by the news that was delivered in an email from Field, but the email also reveals Field has been working with management on a plan to retire this summer.

By way of explanation Field told his co-workers it is “time to enjoy the fruits of a career of which I am immensely proud.”

Speculation began almost immediately about who will replace Field as the station’s chief meteorologist and whether Field may find a way to keep his hand in the Connecticut weather game at another station or in some other role. As former channel 30 reporter Ed Harrigan might have said, “This story is far from over.”
