Recent layoffs at the Associated Press (November 2009) squeezed out state news editor Patrick Sanders.  But he’s landed on his feet, as this month he starts work leading a desk in Gainesville, Florida that will handle about 100 stories a day for distribution on the New York Times News Service, as well as some other related products. The service has about 250 newspaper clients in the US and was previously headquartered at the Times, but the jobs are being shifted to Florida this spring.
Patrick says that some of the jobs have already been filled, but there are about a dozen more to hire by April.
