CBS is expected to announce next week that former WFSB anchor Gayle King is joining the CBS “Early Show”. Charlie Rose, whose interview program airs on PBS, is also joining the morning show which has lagged behind NBC’s “Today Show” and ABC’s “Good Morning America” for as long as anyone can remember. The New York Times has the full story, but here’s the Gayle-specific portion:

Ms. King will help lead the 8 a.m. hour, typically the softer hour for morning news shows. CBS plans to feature its correspondents, like John Miller, a law enforcement veteran who was recently hired by the network, and hire other contributors, in much the same way that MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” has a set of recognizable members of its roundtable.

  1. @anne except that CBS is tilting toward a harder news morning show, not imitating NBC. Adding Gayle King to The Morning Show is nothing more than a hail mary pass / publicity stunt where the network banks on the Oprah connection to drive viewers. Either way, Charlie Rose and Gayle King will be out within 9 months as CBS does another revamp. Hopefully, next time will be some new faces rather than these retreads.
