We heard this a few days ago…we’re considering Kevin Rennie’s blog our second source…that former Connecticut Governor John Rowland was seen at WTIC-AM in Farmington to discuss filling Jim Vicevich’s 9am-12noon slot.

Colin McEnroe confirms…and also reports that longtime Connecticut radio personality Sebastian (a.k.a. Joe Schlosser), is in the mix as well.

  1. Suzanne McDonald has already fired Joe (once, if not twice) when he worked for ZMX when it was a ’70’s station (prior to the two WTICs coming into the fold in 1996).

What about bringing Diane Smith in for middays????

  2. I know a lot of people who still really like the former governor. He betrayed the public trust but is still an iconic figure in Connecticut and has been working at building his reputation up again. I don’t know if it’s the best move but I think a lot of people would be very interested in hearing what Rowland’s got to say.

  3. I feel that the John Rowland would make the most benefit in Jim’s absence.

Sebastian is way to critical, judgemental and just plain rude. ‘

It would be a big mistake to hire Sebastian and hope you consider your options.

I feel the show should remain as political as possible and with Sebastian, it will not as he knows nearly nothing about politics…. just gambling and sports.

I will NOT be listening if this is the case.

    Good luck in your decision,
    Sincerely,
    Avid AM listener.

  4. Sebastian ??

You have GOT to be kidding. He hasn’t ‘retired’ yet ? This man knows NOTHING about politics. All Sebastian has ever done was sports talk and being a gambling addict who still thinks he’s 35. NOT a wise decision as Avid says.We need something other than Glenn and Sebastian is without a doubt, NOT it. Anybody but him !

How many years does he have left in him anyway ?

  5. Disagree with Andrew.

Rowland is a proven, convicted creep who acted criminally as his gift to us for entrusting him with the Governorship.

Why should he be rewarded with a radio job that could be filled by thousands of other experienced radio political talkers just dying for a break in a bigger market, in an industry (radio) where jobs are precious and few?

I have ZERO interest in what Rowland has to say.
WTIC management: do NOT give Rowland this job. I will stop listening to your station altogether if you hire this guy. Let him seek gainful employment elsewhere..maybe one of his “friends” can pay him to “consult.”

  6. Why does it have to be a guy? Isn’t Shelly Sindland off the air at Fox61? She would be perfect! I would listen to her. she is smart, knows Ct politics, and Ct in general, has plenty of sources and connections for guest, topics and can do a real journalistic interview, not some softball skate let the guest plug themselves or their cause. See what I mean? Intelligent conversation from Shelly Sindland could almost make being stuck in Hartford traffic bearable.

  7. Sebastian ~ PLEASE !

He was hot back in the 80’s and on FM….. that was 30 years ago ! And he is still living in them. Knows nothing about what is happening now, in this century.
Rude, crude and is in for nothing more than to plug his pathetic sports gambling page. That’s all he did the last run on WCCC. They are much better off and so will you if you stay away.

He has no place in an AM setting and another listener among many to leave if it happens.

I agree with Recessionista, how about a female ?

  8. Remember the song W-O-L-D by Harry Chapin? It describes a DJ who is past his prime and should have left the business decades ago – that’s Sebastian!

Current WTIC senior level managers are not known for risk taking, so anyone brand new to the station would need to be hired on the cheap AND have the ability to bring with them enough listeners to bump ratings at least in the short term. The important ratings book for WTIC (and remember, this is all about ratings and MONEY) will be the fall book, as the election season hits its final stretch.

I give Diane Smith the best odds simply because she is a known and proven commodity with WTIC management and listeners, and will do a spectacular job during the all-important fall elections/ratings period.

  9. We moved to North Carolina from Rhode Island recently. Buddy Cianci, former Providence mayor and convicted felon, landed a radio talk show host gig for WPRO in the capital city. Cianci served his time and I had no problem with the station hiring him. Same goes for my thoughts on John Rowland. But Rowland is no Buddy Cianci. Buddy is a born entertainer. He’s hilarious, insightful and very, very smart. Listening to Rowland on WTIC would be like listening to water drip into a sink.

And Sebastian?! Bob Steele might have had a word or two about that possibily. Me? I’m speechless.

  10. Finally, entertaining radio is back on WTIC!
It has been far too long since our local talk radio station has an on-air personality (shock jock-PLEASE!!) that doesn’t stick to ONE topic over and over and over and…get it?
Politically oriented talk radio that is completely partisan doesn’t make for engaging listening.
I could turn on ‘Buddy’ on any day of the week, at any hour of his show, and know he’d be talking about the SAME EXACT TOPIC. I’d give it 5 minutes at best, then switch it off.
At least Sebastian offers VARIETY, and I’ve already stayed tuned to hear what the next topic would be. (even stayed in my car @ Stop N Shop to finish out the Jim Koplick interview!).
Give him time to ‘hone’ his A.M. skills, and I’m sure we’ll have worthwile radio once again.

  11. Sebastain is more enjoyable than Jim. With Rush and Jim, I had more politics than I could handle. I would like to listen to Diane Smith, Ray Dunaway and someone who is knowledgeable in a wide range of subjects and easy to listen to. I used to switch stations after 9 a.m. At least for now, the radio stays on 1080.

  12. I did my very best to listen to Sebastian last week…. it was good until the same ‘OLD’ crap comes up, over and over again. I’ve been hearing the same stories for 25 years ! He has GOT to just retire already ! He is way too old to be acting so dirty. It’s repulsive. And who wants to hear his life story ?? It’s full of is gambIing, ‘fantasies’ of sex and total BULLS**T in between. What kind of girl hangs around for 20 years with an engagement ring. Sharon, wake up !

    One week was enough !

Please make the right decision or I will be forced to BECK !

  13. I think its great. JR’s remains an excellent man, head and shoulders above some of the off folk I have seen trolling some CT blogs with chips on their shoulders that keep them from standing straight and tall. “head in the ether” types. well, woo hoo, boo hoo I disagree with your disagreeableness, and am really glad to see JR’s on the air. Thats great and I hope he has a lot of fun and enjoy himself.

If you have a chip on your shoulder, see a doctor.
Where I am glad – happy and relaxed, you are galled – hypertense and bitter. Hmmm. Who leads a better life then? Me, you silly goose.

( I’ve known JR very well when I was a lot younger and he’s no different now to then. To his detractors: get a frickin life, pls.)
