It’s hard to know whether there is anything to the story or if it’s a case of easy, rank, semi-annual speculation, but the New York Post is reporting that Gayle King’s(WFSB) time at CBS may be coming to an end.
She is working under a one year contract that is reportedly worth $10 million. She agreed to the terms of the deal about a year ago and at the time the one year contract was described as a major pay cut. King has been with CBS for thirteen years and is considered the most important part of the morning show and one of the most important faces of the CBS brand.
Having said all that, the network is cutting costs, the morning show is in a distant third place and continues to lose viewers. As CBS’s parent Paramount seeks to finalize a sale, it is difficult to justify such a high salary for any anchor.
King is 70 years old, and the Post quotes an anonymous insider as saying she sees “the writing on the wall.” Another source said another one year extension for King would a “miracle.”
