As expected, Connecticut born Tony Dokoupil has been named anchor of the CBS Evening News.
He has been with the network since 2016 and he has been co-hosting the morning show with Gayle King(WFSB) and Nate Burleson since 2019. He begins his new role January 5.
Under the short-lived tenure of John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois as co-anchors, CBS seemed to be placing its bets on a more serious PBS NewsHour approach to the evening news. CBS’s announcement about Dokoupil’s appointment leans towards putting him on the road, promising the program will be, “fair, fearless, new, and live from your cities and towns.”
