Mike DiMauro, a long time sports columnist for The Day of New London, has been banned indefinitely from attending events sponsored by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, because of an “expression of violence” in a recent column.
In the article in question, DiMauro detailed what it took for him to obtain a Real ID in order to cover a high school championship game originally scheduled to take place at the Coast Guard Academy. While explaining his frustration, he wrote, “Can you imagine the homicidal thoughts I had aimed at CIAC for scheduling this game at Coast Guard in the first place?”
While The Day says it agrees DiMauro’s choice of words was wrong, the paper believes the CIAC’s decision to ban DiMauro has more to do with his critical coverage of the CIAC than his choice of words.
