Cobb Named Columbia J-School Dean

    Jelani Cobb, the former director of the Institute for African-American Studies at the University of Connecticut(2012-2016), has been named Dean of the Columbia Journalism School.

    The writer, historian, and author has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 2015.

    Last year, he edited a book along with New Yorker editor David Remnick titled, The Matter of Black Lives; a compendium of writing about race in America from the magazine, from 1947 to the present.
