Manchester Journal Inquirer alumnus Dan Barry has written a terrific book about baseball’s longest game: the 33-inning 1981 battle between the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings. Okay, we haven’t read the book yet, but anything Dan writes is pure gold. He’s now a New York Times columnist, and his memoir about his childhood and his fight with cancer (“Pull Me Up”) is unforgettable.
