A 44 year old man from Rhode Island has been arrested in connection with the murder of Claudia Voight, the mother of NBC CT anchor Heidi Voight.
Shawn Colon was arrested at a hotel in Groton, Connecticut after police in Vermont obtained a warrant for his arrest. He will be charged with second degree murder when he is returned to Vermont.
Claudia Voight died in her home in Windham, Vermont in February. Police initially believed she died of natural causes, but further investigation revealed she had been strangled. The cause of death was changed in April.
Heidi Voight was off the air for several months, and in July she issued a statement through social media explaining what was known at that time about her mother’s death and explaining her absence. She returned to work in November.
