Now the latest on efforts to buy Tribune Publishing.
Stewart Bainum, Jr., the hotel executive from Baltimore, has let it be known he is willing to put up more of his own money in his effort to buy Tribune Publishing and wrest it from the hands of Alden Global Capital. At the same time he is looking for other investors willing to take an interest in individual papers in the chain. His main interest appears to be winning ownership of the Baltimore Sun and turning it into a non-profit.
A reminder why we care: Tribune owns the Hartford Courant and the present wheeling and dealing could have a major impact on how the Courant moves forward into the future as an institution in Connecticut.
