Tom Ridge, the first Secretary of Homeland Security, has written a new book that includes the explosive information that “he was pressured by top advisers to President George W. Bush to raise the national threat level just before the 2004 election in what he suspected was an effort to influence the vote.”

The Laurel is equally interested in the fact the book is co-authored by Chester resident Lary Bloom, a former editor of the Hartford Courant’s defunct Northeast Magazine who continues to write a column for Connecticut Magazine.
