The Hartford Courant is raising new questions about the relationship between Michael Schroeder, the owner the New Britain Herald, and Sheldon Adelson, the new owner of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

At the center of the Courant’s story is a reporter it appears no one has ever seen before(Edward Clarkin) who published a story in the Herald earlier this month about business courts in Las Vegas.

The added scrutiny of Schroeder comes after it was revealed earlier this month that he played a hand in helping Adelson purchase his hometown Vegas newspaper for $140 million in cash. Schroeder was listed on the sales documents as general manager. Adelson is a casino owner and is known as a major contributor to the Republican Party. No one knows Adelson’s motive for purchasing the Review-Journal, but the secrecy surrounding the transaction is leading to suspicion and unrest on the paper’s staff. Tuesday, the editor quit.

It should be noted that when Schroeder took over the Herald and the Bristol Press he was viewed as a savior of both papers and a champion of local news.
