Followers of The Laurel may have noticed a trend in recent months.

    A higher than usual number of journalists are turning in their reporter’s badges to enter the field of public relations, both in government and outside government.

    Former Journal Inquirer editor Chris Powell has noticed and has some concerns both for journalism and the new role in which many former reporters find themselves.

    Powell’s column carries an exhaustive list, but does not include those former reporters who have left the news business for private sector PR jobs.
