The Licht Story

When your New York Times profile reads like an obituary…

Chris Licht, originally from Newtown, Connecticut and now the president of CNN, has been the subject of a fair amount of criticism since taking over the network earlier this year. Most of the complaints come from the world of journalism where everyone is in favor of progress as long as there is no change. Much of the rest of the world has more important things to worry about.

The Times profiled Licht this weekend in a style that seems to suggest a short tenure. But Licht is simply carrying out the vision of the new owner and who knows, may actually be on to something, given his successful track record in TV news.

As Teddy Roosevelt said: “It’s not the critic who counts…the credit belongs to the man in the arena.”
