Schroeder buys Chronicle.
Michael Schroeder, owner of the New Britain Herald and Bristol Press, has announced plans to acquire The Chronicle of Willimantic.
The family-owned paper was put up for sale last year. The Chronicle has been in business for 140 years and is one of the last family-owned papers in Connecticut; a state that once had more newspapers per capita than any other state in the nation.
The deal is scheduled to be finalized May 1. Schroeder also owns the Block Island Times.
In case you are wondering, it would take approximately 3 hours and 1 minute to travel by car and ferry from New Britain to Willimantic and then onto Block Island.
