Telling It Like It Is

Reporters and media personalities with Connecticut connections find themselves at the center of controversies big and small this week on the presidential campaign trail.

Joe Scarborough. For a second time in less than a week, Scarborough went nuclear on Donald Trump and leading Republicans who continue to support Trump following his remarks last week about an Indiana judge. Scarborough is urging top party leaders, like Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, to essentially withdraw their support for Trump until he proves he’s not a bigot. Scarborough lives in Connecticut and his co-host, Mika Brzezinski worked here before ascending to the networks.

Stephen Ohlemacher. The former Hartford Courant reporter came in for some direct criticism from Bernie Sanders supporters for being part of the team at the Associated Press who reported on Monday that Hillary Clinton had the delegates she needed to secure the Democratic nomination. Some say the decision to publish the story was the same as publishing exit poll numbers before the polls closed. But it’s not of course, because Ohlemacher was reporting on the race for delegates not individual primaries.
