Jacqueline Smith, the recent ombudsman for Stars and Stripes, is suing to get her job back after being fired two months ago without cause.

Smith, a former staffer with the Meriden Record Journal, Danbury News Times and Hearst Connecticut Media, claims in her lawsuit that her firing was retaliatory and violated her First Amendment rights. Stars and Stripes is funded in part by the Defense Department, but has always operated without influence from the Pentagon.
