Connecticut Public Media President and CEO Mark Contreras published an op-ed this weekend in the Hartford Courant arguing against further federal cuts in funding to public media outlets nationwide and in support of more contributions.
Public media executives and supporters have been increasing their advocacy in the weeks following an executive order from President Trump that attempts to cut all federal funding. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has vowed to fight the executive order on several grounds, but the action by the president has made real a long held conservative policy position that taxpayer dollars should not be funding a news service they perceive as biased against them.
In addition to the op-ed, Connecticut Public stations have been airing regular calls for donations pegged to the executive order.
