The Connecticut News Consortium has announced the sale of the Winsted Citizen to Simsbury based American Business Media.

As Laurel readers know, ABM is owned by long-time Connecticut journalist and news entrepreneur Vince Valvo. As we reported earlier this week, the News Consortium ordered operations at the Citizen to cease based on continuing monthly deficits. The Consortium said in a statement issued Wednesday, it was never the intention to close the paper permanently, but to seek alternatives to the current model.

In the same statement, Valvo said he expects the future of the Citizen to evolve and for the paper to cover more of Litchfield County. Founding editor and publisher Andy Thibault will stay on as a contributing editor.

    The transaction is effective immediately.
