New filings show a large number of Tribune Publishing shareholders withheld support last week in voting for members of the company’s board of directors.

This is seen as a sign that there is strong support among Tribune shareholders for a sale of the company to Gannett. Meanwhile, Gannett has signaled it does not intend to drop its current bid to buy Tribune at a price of $864 million.

Tribune owns the Hartford Courant.
