In the weeks since the shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy has been in the national spotlight as the Senate tries to put together a new set of gun laws to stem the number of mass shootings in the United States.

Murphy has been working this problem since the school shooting in Sandy Hook and his quest shows how difficult it is to reach agreement on certain issues in the U.S. Congress.

Now it appears Murphy and other senators are on the cusp of getting something done, although he and others admit it is not enough – and the work will continue.

“Since 10 Republican and 10 Democrats announced their agreement on a bipartisan outline less than two weeks ago, lead negotiators — Senators Christopher S. Murphy of Connecticut and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, both Democrats, and John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, both Republicans — have spent hours hammering out the details and toiling to keep their fragile coalition together.” ~ NYT June 22
