The relatively new CEO of CNN, Mark Thompson, sent out an internal memo this week outlining management changes and a new direction for the network and its international news gathering operations.

In short, Thompson assured CNN’s employees that television is still a “crown jewel” in the company’s portfolio, but stressed the need to meet customers “where they are” and to begin creating content to be consumed on phones and other devices that is so good users – especially younger users – will be willing to pay for it.

The major memo is the first full public airing of Thompson’s vision for the future of CNN.
